The Ironworkers union (Local 97) runs an apprenticeship program. You can also find non-union structural steel contractors across Metro Vancouver.

Yr 1~1800 hrs

1st Year Apprentice

Steel erection basics, rigging and signalling, reinforcing rod placement, welding introduction, and safety systems.

Yr 2~3600 hrs

2nd Year

Structural steel connections, pre-engineered buildings, bridge work, and ornamental ironwork.

Yr 3~5400 hrs

3rd Year

Advanced rigging, heavy lifting, curtain wall systems, and post-tensioning.

Yr 4~7200 hrs

Certificate of Qualification

Final technical training and CofQ exam. Journeyperson Ironworker โ€” one of the highest-paid construction trades.

Interprovincial Red Seal

National recognition. High demand for Red Seal ironworkers on major infrastructure projects coast to coast.
