IUEC Local 82 (Vancouver) runs the primary apprenticeship program. Access is competitive โ€” this trade is highly sought after for its pay and conditions.

Yr 1~1800 hrs

1st Year Apprentice

Electrical fundamentals, mechanical systems, hydraulics, and elevator code basics.

Yr 2~3600 hrs

2nd Year

Traction elevators, escalators, and more advanced electrical controls.

Yr 3~5400 hrs

3rd Year

Modernization projects, MRL (machine-room-less) systems, and digital controls.

Yr 4~7200 hrs

Certificate of Qualification

Final technical training and CofQ exam. Journeyperson Elevator Mechanic โ€” one of the best-paid trade certifications in BC.
