Register with Skilled Trades BC and secure an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice. You'll earn wages from day one — no need to front tuition costs.
On-the-job training combined with in-school technical training (6–8 weeks/year at a BC institution). Learn fundamentals: wiring, panels, code, safety.
More complex installations. Commercial and industrial exposure. Your hourly rate increases with each level.
Advanced systems, motor controls, and low-voltage work. You're now a highly capable tradesperson mid-path.
Complete your final in-school period and pass the Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) exam. You are now a Journeyperson Electrician in BC.
Optional but highly recommended. Pass the Red Seal exam and your certification is recognized in every province in Canada. No re-certification if you move.
